Remote IT support

Tech trouble, handled securely.

Safeguard IT fixes computers, networks, and accounts for homes and small businesses, and sets up NAS storage so your files stay in your hands. Tell us what's wrong and we'll take it from there.

NAS setup and support

Stop renting your storage.

A NAS is a small device at home or in the office that stores your photos and files. Buy it once and your storage is yours, with no monthly cloud storage fees. I set it up and keep it running.

The basics

What is a NAS?

NAS stands for network-attached storage. It is a small computer with room for hard drives, and it plugs into your router. Every device on your network can save files to it and open files from it, the way they would with a cloud service, except the files stay in a box you own.

One place for everything

Phones, laptops, and TVs all use the same shared storage, so photos and documents stop getting scattered across devices.

Drives protect each other

With two or more drives, a NAS can keep a mirrored copy of your files. If one drive fails, your files are still on the other.

You decide who can reach it

A NAS can be reached from outside your network too. If you want that, I set it up securely. If you do not, it stays private to your network.

Choosing a NAS

Find a starting point before you reach out

Answer a few questions to see which NAS fits. I confirm current models and prices with you before you buy anything.

Where will it be used?
What will you mainly use it for?
Synology for home

Best for photos, family files, computer backups, and media libraries.

  • DS225+2 bays
  • DS425+4 bays

Synology NAS devices run apps for photos, file sync, backups, and media servers such as Plex.

Synology for small business

Best for shared team folders, computer backups, and room to grow.

  • DS925+4 bays
  • DS1525+5 bays

Folder permissions are detailed, so you can control who opens what.

Ubiquiti UniFi for UniFi businesses

Best for businesses that already run UniFi networking and want simple shared file storage in the same ecosystem.

  • UNAS 22 bays
  • UNAS 44 bays
  • UNAS Pro7 bays, rackmount

Keep in mind UniFi NAS devices focus on storage. They do not run apps such as Plex, and sharing permissions are simpler than on Synology.

Good to know

Before you buy

A NAS is not a full backup

It protects you if a drive fails. It does not protect against theft, fire, or deleting a file by mistake, so keep a second copy somewhere else. Data recovery and backup guarantees are not part of either plan.

Choose NAS-rated drives

Use drives made for NAS use, such as WD Red Plus or Seagate IronWolf. Two mirrored drives give you the space of one, so buy more than you need today.

Hardware is bought separately

You buy the NAS and drives from a retailer you choose. I help you pick the right ones so you do not overspend or buy the wrong thing.
